What is face reading?

Chinese face reading, sometimes called physiognomy, is an ancient practice — more than 3,000 years old — that looks at facial features, lines, and colorings as a reflection of a person's inner physical and emotional state. In this tradition, the face is read as a kind of map: different areas are associated with different organs, life stages, and emotional patterns.

It is not fortune-telling, and it is not a medical diagnosis. Think of it as a tool for self-awareness — a different, surprisingly insightful lens on the patterns that shape how you feel.

The Idea

The Emotional Architecture of Health

In the face reading tradition, physical health and emotional life are deeply connected. The idea is that unprocessed experiences and stress don't simply disappear — the body holds onto that energy, which can show up as tension, self-protection, and patterns that are hard to break.

This tradition also offers a compassionate way to understand why change can feel so hard. When the body associates letting go — of weight, of habits, of old coping mechanisms — with feeling unsafe, it tends to hold on. Face reading is one way to gently surface those patterns so you can work with your body instead of against it.

This reflects the philosophy of the Chinese face reading tradition and Emily's approach to it — a holistic, complementary perspective, not medical claims.

What A Session Is Like

A Face Reading Session is one hour, available in person in Lansing or over Zoom. Together we explore what your features may be reflecting, name patterns that might be keeping you stuck, and create space to move through past or repressed emotions. Many people describe leaving with more clarity, more self-compassion, and a greater sense of being settled in their own body.

Who It's For

Face reading tends to resonate with people who feel "stuck" in ways food and willpower alone haven't fixed — who sense there's an emotional layer to their health and want a safe, curious way to explore it.
